Position Overview

We are immediately seeking an Engagement Coordinator in either Stockholm or Rockville to join our Global Norms Research team.

ISS-Ethix provides both custom engagement and Pooled Engagement solutions. Pooled Engagement is a dialogue and engagement service that is carried out with companies identified through Norm-Based Research. Norm-Based Research reviews and assesses allegations of corporate involvement in practices or activity that are in conflict with international standards and guidelines, as recognized in the United Nations (UN) Global Compact and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises. Within the framework of Norm-Based Research, ISS-Ethix carries out research into approximately 20,000 companies globally in developed, emerging and frontier markets.

Pooled Engagement is a tool for asset owners and asset managers alike to exercise active ownership through dialogue with companies on environmental and social issues. It supports signatories of the UN-backed Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in fulfilling their commitment to active ownership; to incorporating ESG principles into ownership policies and practices; to seeking disclosure on ESG issues from companies they invest in; and to reporting on activities and progress. Pooled Engagement also supports clients’ efforts to meet expectations and responsibilities set out in Stewardship Codes.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience within the fields of RI, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or Sustainability. They will also have strong organizational skills and will be able to review and prioritise effectively to deadlines. The Global Norms Research team is based in Stockholm (Sweden) and Manila (Philippines) and the successful candidate will be able to work independently and collaboratively with the team to facilitate engagement activities and respond to direct enquiries relating to the product.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Global Norms team in close cooperation with other team leads and report to the Global Norms Research Lead. This will involve:
  • Reviewing and ensuring targets are met by the team by established deadlines
  • Coordinating engagements across the year.
  • Responsibility for quality assurance of deliveries
  • Chairing and facilitating meetings involving issuers and clients, where appropriate.
  • Training of new staff on engagement processes
  • Providing administrative support as needed.
  • Reviewing and compiling results on quarterly and annual basis
  • Contribute to the development and periodic review of Engagement services and processes. This will include:
  • Monitoring industry and market developments and initiatives to review alignment of product against market expectations
  • Contribute to alignment of processes with existing ISS products, such as Norm-Based Research
  • Represent Global Norms in internal and external enquiries directly related to Engagement
  • Act as the lead for immediate enquiries relating specifically to Engagement and coordinate with internal teams to ensure that every query is accurately addressed in a timely manner

Qualifications

Professional skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills.
  • Strong academic qualifications (Masters in relevant field, such as international relations/law/politics/communications desirable but not required.)
  • Excellent communication skills: The individual must be able to engage professionally with clients, colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Interest in team management and demonstrated coordination skills
  • Excellent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent language skills, both written and oral. (Required fluency in English; fluency in Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin or Russian is desirable)
